THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

1. TPS            2. SECURING SCREWS

Disconnect the (-) terminal from the battery, then unplug the cable from the TPS.  Check the reistance between the terminals
when the throttle is fully open, and closed.  If the specified amounts are not within specs, adjust the sensor.  If the readings cannot be optained, then the TPS must be replaced, and adjusted.

Between A & B:
Throttle Lever to Stop Screw clearance - 0.020" (.05mm): 0-500ohms
Throttle Lever to Stop Screw clearance - 0.031" (.08mm): infinity ohms
Between A & D..................................................................: 3.5k - 2k ohms
Between A & C:
    Throttle plate idle:............... 2 - 6.5k ohms
    Throrrle plate wide open:.....11 - 14 ohms

To adjust the sensor; disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle opener and connect a hand-held pump.  Apply enough vacuum to retract the opener to the idle position.
1.Throtte Opener/ 2. Hose / 3. Plug / 4. Opener Adjust Screw

Loosen the idle speed screw so there is clearance between the screw and the lever.  Write down how many turns the screw was loosened.  Turn the screw in until it just contact the lever, again, counting the turns.  Subtract this number, from the number of turns usedto loosen, and you will have the number of turns the screw was actually loosened from the idle position.  This can be used as a guide when returning it to its original position after the TPS adjustment done.

If you have a manual transmission, insert a 2.2mm feeler guage between the idle speed screw, and throttle lever.  If an Auto transmission, use a 2.4mm guage.
1. Lever / 2. Adjust Screw / 3. Feeler guage

Connect the ohmmeter between C & D of the TPS plug.  Loosen the TPS screws (do not remove), and turn the TPS clockwise completely.  Now turn it counter-clockwise until the ohmmeter changes from infinity, to zero.  Tighten the bolts and remove the feeler guage.

Reconnect the vacuum hose to the Throttle Opener, reconnect the TPS plug, and (-) cable to the battery.

Return the idle speed screw back to its previouse position, and check idle speed (800rpms).
