REMOVING THE REAR SEAT BELT TOWERS

1. Loosen and remove the seat belt guide fastened to the body.  Once out, do not take apart any further.
2. Remove the screws located down towards the bottom, inside a square, or sunken area in the rear body panel.
3. Remove the two screws that hold the rubber bumper/stop (for the convertible top fastening bar)
This part attaches to the seat belt assembly, holding the body panel in place.  You won't be able to move the panel
if this part is still attached.
4. Lift up on the body panel, and remove the four bolts that hold the metal housing onto the body.
Two on top (opposite each other), and two on the sides (opposite each other, one up, and one down).
You will have to bend the panel to get to the bolts, but will not damage the panel if you only bend it enough
to get to the bolts, and no further.
5. Remove the entire seat belt assembly, and store with all mounting hardware.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 for opposite side.

You do not need to remove, or bother with  the seat belt guide on the assembly when removing.

The assembly consists of one primary metal bracket, two plastic parts (tower tube cover, body panel), foam layer (under the tube cover), and the rubber stop/bumper for the soft-top rear fastening bar.

You can remove the body panel from the assembly, and replace it to cover the square access holes.  If the hole is big enough, the belt guide will fit through the panel.  You can remobe it to get the panel off the assembly.  I didnt use the panels, because I had to use the rear most bolt to place "tension" chains on the speaker cabinets, because the brackets were not holding up.

Notes:
In the state of Pennsylvania, an inspector may fail your vehicle for inspection if; The rear seat is still present, or, because he/she wishes to.  Seat belts are a federal requirement, and must be present in all seating areas.  If you have removed your rear seat, the seat belts assembly being removed should not raise any flags for inspection or legal purposes.

If any automotive inspection station passes your vehicle, without the seat belt assembly, and you have the back seat in, they are violating their state laws, and federal saftey laws.
