1. Insulator
1. Intake Manifold
2. Heating Element
2. PTC Heater
The PTC warms fuel mixture during cold start conditions. The system energizes for up to 10 seconds.
Symptoms of a of a bad PTC system:
Hard Starting, and/or stumbling and stalling, when cold.
Sluggish performance and/or overheating when hot (PTC does not shut
down).
The PTC is mounted between the TBI assembly and the Intake Manifold.
To check the unit, the engine must be cold, and you'll need a multi-meter
to measure resistance between the PTC heater side of the electrical connector,
and ground (you'll have to umplug the PTC unit to test, engine off).
If the resistance is less than or greater than .05ohms - 3.0ohms, the PTC
is defective, but does not mean it doesn't work. You should replace
the unit if the measurements are not as specified.
